Matariki is the Maori name for a group of seven stars known as the Pleiades star cluster. This occasion is the time to celebrate and respect our country and planet, along with having feasts and being happy. This week we had Matariki celebrations in our Centre.
Children did many activities throughout the week. They did some amazing paintings/drawings of stars, made sparkling stars and listened to Matariki songs during mat time. On 25th June children had a special Matariki feast prepared by our staff. Teachers made lovely Kumara hash cakes for morning tea which was followed with toast, chicken sausages and mashed potatoes for lunch.
Children thoroughly enjoyed doing all the activities along with the yummy food.
